PUEBLO OF LAGUNA, N.M. - Laguna resident Ellena Lockwood started collecting classroom materials about four years ago. Her husband, Lester Lockwood, works as a teacher at St. Joseph Mission School in San Fidel. The school had been due for some new materials across the board. Officials were planning on tossing the old materials since no other school or teachers had shown any interest in them. Lockwood heard about this and saw it as an opportunity to collect some resources that her grandchildren could possibly use. Little did she know that a few years later, that impressive collection of materials would become useful during these times of online schooling.
PREWITT, N.M. – The Bi-County Fair will still be happening this year with a reduced schedule that will allow us to abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the Governor and the State Health Department due to COVID-19, which forces us to limit attendance to the fair. The only official event during the Labor Day Weekend will be the Jr. Livestock Show and Sale to help continue our support of our youth and agriculture in our community.
GRANTS, N.M. - Route 66 Junkyard Brewery has added a drive-in movie theater to the brewery. This drive-in is one of a kind because of the option to sit inside the two-acre patio and watch the movie where everyone is social distanced and can drink our delicious beer and local wines. A firepit is available in a licensed alcohol area. The firepits come stocked with cedar wood; each pit can accommodate up to six people. We also serve our famous pulled pork sandwiches, brisket sandwiches, and the one and only Junkyard Sandwich which includes both pulled pork and brisket. Fresh hot popcorn with real butter. Parking starts at 7 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night and the movies will start at sundown.
GRANTS, N.M. - Mr. Grumpy, the stray cat who had survived being shot in the face, came to the end of his road on Aug. 12, 2020.
