ALBUQUERQUE, NM - New Mexico United is thrilled to announce that three New Mexicans and United Academy players Yuto Oketani, Jace Sais, and Jackson DuBois have signed Academy Contracts, allowing them to play first-team matches, while maintaining their amateur eligibility. These three players have earned this opportunity through their hard work and talent, and have been participating in first-team training and preseason matches.

If there is a perennial goal of any high school basketball team in the state of New Mexico it is to make it to “The Pit”—-the New Mexico prep basketball holy land. “The Pit” at the University of New Mexico is where the Nusenda Credit Union state boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments are held every March.

This week’s Athletes of the Week are Cody Melonas (gray shirt) and Tristin Fernandez (black shirt) of the Grants High School Boys’ Basketball Team. Melonas went five for six on the free throw line in the crucial 4th quarter and Fernandez had seven points in that quarter as well in the 59-54 win over Silver High School last Saturday in the first round of the state basketball tournament..

They will play against the 9th seeded Silver High School, the district champ from district 3 4-A, in the first round of the state tournament.
