Lady Pirate grapplers traveled to Belen this past weekend to participate at the Leonard Kirby Invite and participated in the duals meet. They brought home a second-place trophy.

Grants-Cibola County Schools held the Annual District Spelling Bee at the Grants High School Performing Arts Center on January 25, and students from all over the district were involved in the competition. All of them did great, however, there could only be one winner!

The Pirates boys’ basketball team had a shot at getting their first “W '' in districts and came up short by a point after a 72-71 overtime defeat at the hands of the Belen Eagles. The Pirates led in the first quarter 20-17 and only trailed by a bucket at the half, 37-35.

The Grants High School Boys’ Basketball team had a slow start in districts and are 0-2 in district play after two recent district games. The Pirates faced a tough Valencia Jaguar team in their home district opener on Tuesday, January 17.

This week's Athlete of the Week is John 'JJ' Horacek, a sophomore on the Grants High School Boys’ Basketball team. Horacek had 10 points against the Gallup Bengals, 15 points against Valencia High School and 20 points against St. Pius last week.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – New Mexico United is hosting an Open Tryout, presented by Fiesta Kia, on January 28th, 2023 at Kraemer Fields, in Albuquerque. This is the first open tryout that New Mexico United has hosted since 2018 and is an opportunity for all players to earn a chance to make our roster.
Isaiah Griego, 2, takes it inside for the Pirates last week in a home game against the Gallup Bengals (10-6), who defeated the Pirates 77-64. The Pirates are currently 79 and will start district play on Tuesday, January, 17 against the Valencia Jaguars (7-11). Gallup gallops past Grants, 77-64

The Pirates boys’ basketball team suffered a defeat this past week as they succumbed to I-40 Rival, the Gallup Bengals (106), by a score of 77-64. The Pirates jumped ahead in the first quarter with a 16-13 lead which changed to a 28-26 lead for the Bengals at halftime.

The Grants High School Boys’ Basketball team went 1-2 at the Gallup Bengals Boys’ Invitational Tournament last week at the Gallup High School. On Thursday, January 5 the Pirates played and lost their first game of the tournament to the mighty Navajo Prep High School by a score of 6744.
