Mayor Recount to be held March 23

GRANTS, N.M. – The City of Grants will hold a recount in the contest for mayor after a close race on March 1 separated the top two vote earners by only eight votes. Current City Councilor Erik Garcia was the election night winner, receiving 528 votes.

NTU Ninth Annual Research Day Competition presents science projects of students

CROWNPOINT, N.M. - On March 9, 2022, the university held its Ninth Annual Research Day competition for NTU students from various disciplines of study to showcase their research projects. The event awarded cash prizes to the top three research projects that were submitted and displayed for visitors.

Correctional Officer Stabbed

GRANTS, N.M. – An inmate with a history of stabbing correctional officers was serving out a sentence at Western New Mexico Correctional Facility when he allegedly stabbed a local prison guard. Jesus Alberto Robles has a history of stabbing prison guards.

Alleged sexual abuse on Navajo Nation

NAVAJO NATION, N.M. – Crowpoint man Wade Dixon has been indicted for sexual abuse of a minor on the Navajo Nation. Dixon was arraigned in a federal court for this sexual abuse charge on March 11.

Taking Deadly Narcotics Off the Street

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. A single pill of Fentanyl can be enough to kill a person. On March 3 the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office confiscated 114 of these pills, along with 143 OxyContin and 35 Oxycodone pills, 129.5 grams of methamphetamine, and a loaded handgun.
