Permits are already required to burn trash or weeds across Cibola County; this bill would change some of the process and the liability for landowners.

Private prison moratorium

SANTA FE, N.M. — The New Mexico State Legislature will debate House Bill 40. This legislation, if enacted, makes it illegal for any city, village, or county to enter into an agreement or extend a contract with a private prison. This affects Cibola County because two of the county’s three detention facilities are owned by a private company.

To catch a gunman; Sheriff’s Office continues search

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – In late November, an unknown gunman opened fire on Katie Mallory, who was walking down Zuni Canyon Road like she normally does. For Mallory, the day was just like any other, she was on a walk to meet her husband, knowing his schedule she expected him to meet him on the road while he was driving home from work. On a normal day he would pick her up and they would drive home together. This day, however, would prove to be anything but normal.
